AILBIEA, an association of traders, manufacturers, importers, exporters and service providers engaged in the business of liquid bulk, has called for an urgent need for various taxes and policies to be rationalised, with removal of antiquated policies and systems, a release by the association said.
"We also urge the government to modernise Mumbai and JNPT ports in order to make this industry a globally competitive one", AILBIEA President Jayyannt Lapsiaa said.
The octroi levy, sales tax, stamp duty on import/export of cargo, removal of antiquated procedures and facilitation of trade by revenue departments are some other issues which have to be addressed immediately if 'Make in India' and ease of doing business have to succeed, Lapsiaa said.
"India is a country with immense potential for growth and AILBIEA is playing a significant role. Let us all work towards this metamorphosis of our nation, economy and international trade," industrialist Adi Godrej said at the event.
"We need removal of operational constraints, stamp duty on transfer of shipping documents, rationalisation and systemisation of customs/excise procedure and a complete overhaul of the available infrastructure.
