While the district's veterinary officials were treating the animal since Tuesday, a team of veterinary officials from Nandankanan had started treatment to the elephant on Thursday.
"The animal had become too week and didn't respond to medicines. Though veterinary officials tried their best, they couldn't save the elephant. It died yesterday in a forested area between Maliguda villages," said Divisional Forest Officer (Koraput) Peria Swamy.
The carcass was buried after the autopsy.
Forest officials said the elephant was a member of the herd of eight pachyderms moving in the area for the past few years.
