Bhiku Prasad, a labourer from Uttar Pradesh who was in coma in Oman has passed away, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said today.
His body is being brought back to his family in Kushmahi village of Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh, the minister said.
"I am sorry Shri Bhiku Prasad is no more. He was in a state of coma in a hospital in Oman. His mortal remains will be sent to his family in Village Kusmahi PO Ramkola Distt Kushinagar UP. @yadavakhilesh," she wrote on Twitter today.
Swaraj had on Monday tweeted about a media report in Oman on Prasad. She had said that the Indian government will bear all his medical expenses.
According to reports, Prasad was on a visit visa to Oman for three months to find a job. He had collapsed just three days after getting a job but his papers were under processing.
Had he gone to Oman through proper channels, his hospital treatment would have been covered. Instead, he went on a visit visa and then found a job. He had not received his labour card when he collapsed at work, the reports added.
