More than 200 activists, led by Jaleel, ransacked the shop selling country liquor and set ablaze the furniture inside it, the police said, adding that the fire was doused soon.
The activists also locked down another country liquor shop in the same locality.
A case was registered against the agitators, including the MLA, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at City Chowk police station, an official said.
As per the memorandum, the shop is located near three schools, including the one for girls. Besides, at least four places of worship and a market are located near the shop.
It stated that drunkards create nuisance in the area everyday, which is creating problems to women.
"The liquor shop has violated all existing rules and its license should not be renewed. The shop should not be allowed to operate in this area. We will intensify our agitation," the MLA said.
