AIMIM condemns killing of five undertrial prisoners
Press Trust of India Hyderabad Condemning the killing of five alleged terror operatives today while they were being taken to a criminal court in Hyderabad, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi demanded a probe by a sitting High Court judge into the matter.
He termed the encounter deaths "extra-judicial retaliatory killings" by police in the wake of the killing of policemen by suspected terrorists at Suryapet in Nalgonda district last week, an AIMIM release said.
Police had gunned down two suspected terrorists in an encounter in Nalgonda district.
The Suryapet incident was a terrorist act and everyone condemned it as well as expressed solidarity with the police, the AIMIM release said.
"However, police seemed to be on a retaliatory killing spree by gunning down undertrial prisoners to avenge the Suryapet incident. When the undertrial prisoners were facing terror charges, it was for the courts to decide. The police cannot take over the powers of the judiciary and resort to extra-judicial killings," the AIMIM release said.
The Hyderabad MP also demanded that the government follow the guidelines of Supreme Court and the National Human Rights Commission by booking cases against the policemen in connection with the alleged encounter in Warangal.
