The Air Chief Marshal, who was received here by Air Officer Commanding Srinagar, Air Commodore D Choudhury, is on a two-day visit to Awantipur and Srinagar bases, a defence spokesman said.
"Srinagar is our premier frontline airbase, which is also slated for major upgradation as a part of our ongoing modernisation drive," the Air Chief said at the Srinagar airbase.
Brownie also inspected the newly inducted Mi-17 V5 helicopter unit, which has the "onerous task" of supporting the Army units in Jammu and Kashmir sector, the spokesman said.
The spokesman added the Air Chief is also scheduled to meet the state Governor N N Vohra.
