Director of a city-based air hostess training institute was today arrested on the charges of running the academy without having legal affiliation.
"Air Hostess and Hospitality Academy (AHHA) Director Dillip Routray has been arrested on the charges of admitting students without having affiliation," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Satyabrat Bhoi told reporters.
The police action followed a day after students of the institute ransacked it alleging sexual harassment in the name of placements. The DCP said a police team might leave for Hyderabad where students were allegedly sexually harassed.
Bhoi also said that the police might take action against some students engaged in attacking the staff members of the institute and damaging its office. The police have registered two cases after taking FIRs from both the students and the institute authorities.
Apart from sexual harassment slur, the students also alleged that though the institute took a hefty sum towards course fee, it did not conduct examinations and provide them certificates.
The director of the institute, however, denied such allegations.
Earlier in the day, the Kharavela Nagar police had called Routray and the students of AHHA for questioning at 10 AM and during grilling discovered that the institute did not have necessary affiliations to offer the courses.
