National carrier Air India today brought relief material, including around 1,500 kg of medicine, for flood victims of Uttarakhand from Mumbai on its flight to Delhi.
"The relief material, comprising around 1,500 kgs of medicines, was handed over to Air India officials for airlifting them to Delhi by Maharastra Minister of Public Works and Special Assistance, Chhagan Bhujbal and Arshad Siddiqui, Chairman of The Red Crescent Society of India, an NGO based in Mumbai," a statement from the Civil Aviation Ministry said.
Siddiqui said a team of 40 doctors and volunteers would also fly to Dehradun to attend to the needs of the victims in addition to the relief material being sent.
Air India has been offering a 50 per cent discount on the basic fare for passengers flying from Dehradun to Delhi and onward stations on its entire domestic network.
It has also set up a help desk at Dehradun for the evacuees.
