Air India to promote use of khadi onboard

Seeking to promote use of indigenous fabric, national carrier Air India has decided to use the natural and eco-friendly khadi products for its international flights and has placed order worth Rs 1.21 crores with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission for getting 25,000 units of amenity kits.
The amenity kits are provided by Air India to its first class and business class passengers, flying on the airline's international network, a release said today.
The products will be supplied by Khadi Gramodyog Bhawan, a flagship retail unit of the KVIC, it said.
The kits includes hand sanitiser, moisturiser lotion, lemongrass, handmade soap, khadi lip balm, rose face wash, essential oils, among others, the release said.
KVIC will supply 25,000 kits to Air India by next year of which 20,000 kits will be for the business class while the rest for the first class passengers, it said.
This order will generate more than 60,000 man hours which will be a boost to the workers, the release said.
Airport Authority of India has also conveyed its consent for allotting space at the important airports of the country to develop modern Khadi outlets, the release said.
