The national carrier, which has the largest pool of nearly 700 pilots trained to operate flights under Category III low visibility conditions, has prepared rosters of the such pilots with a view to ensure that adequate number of them were available for flight operations to and from all the metros.

"Since the first phase of operations is very crucial to maintain on-time performance of entire network, the aircraft designated for the early morning departures would be parked overnight on Category III enabled parking bays at the IGI airport," an airline spokesperson said.

Recently, the DGCA held a meeting of all the stake holders and issued directives to ensure less disruption of flights during the fog conditions.

We have taken pro-active steps to minimise flight disruptions and ensure quick dissemination of information related to flight operations, across the network, he added.

If the visibility at an airport falls below the minimum requirement for flight operations, rescheduling of flights would be done and passengers would be intimated through phone or SMS alerts.

"Information relating to rescheduling of flights would also be communicated through the media on 24x7 basis. The resources at the call centre have been strengthened to meet the expected increase in workload during this period. Additional manpower were being deployed on the kerb-side of the terminal building to assist passengers needing information or special assistance," he said.

The airline advised the passengers to provide their mobile phone numbers at the time of booking and also to check the flight status before leaving the for airport, he said.
