Acting on a tip-off, Abdul Salam was intercepted at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport after he passed through the green channel, the official said.
Salam arrived here from Dubai via Bahrain on a Gulf flight and on checking his baggage, nothing suspicious was found, he said.
However, four packets with gold chains concealed in his shoes were later discovered, the official said adding the chains were subsequently seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
"Salam has confessed to the crime while his statement was recorded under section 108 of the Customs Act," the official said.
