With the government putting pressure on telcos to address call drops issue at the earliest, Aircel is planning to add around 850 telecom towers across West Bengal at an investment of Rs 100 crore by the end of this year.
"The plan is to add 350 sites in Kolkata and another 500 odd in the rest of Bengal circle at a capital expenditure of Rs 100 crore," Aircel Business Head - Kolkata and Rest of West Bengal (RoWB), Sanjeev Garg, said on the sidelines of the launch of the company's new data pack.
Aircel said most of the planned towers would be 3G ones. The mobile telecom operator currently has 4,000 towers (2G + 3G) in Kolkata and around 3,800 in RoWB.
"We are expecting a 50 per cent growth in subscribers by December 2016," Garg said.
The telco has 75 lakh users in the state (Kolkata - 40 lakh and RoWB - 35 lakh).
"Once 350 new towers come up in Kolkata, we will cover the entire city and can boast of seamless connectivity," Garg added.
