"Just because now Sikhs can register their marriages under the amended Anand Marriage Act-1909, it does not give a separate identity to Sikh religion as being falsely propagated by the government," President AISSF Karnail Singh Peermohammad said.
He accused the Congress of trying to mislead Sikhs over the issue and claimed that the amendments in the Anand Marriage Act fail to provide any relief to millions of Sikhs living in India.
The amended Anand Marriage Bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha recently.
The AISSF chief urged the government to implement the National Commission to Review the Working of the Constitution recommendation to amend the Article 25 of the Constitution to restore the separate status of Sikhism.
