All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) today announced their day-long agitation on May 30 to protest the anti-labour policies of the state government.
Goa statehood day, May 30, has been selected for the protests to highlight anti-labour policies, AITUC Goa general secretary Christopher Fonseca told reporters here.
"The managements have been adopting hire and fire methods against the contract workmen and their services are terminated summarily," Fonseca said.
He accused Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of supporting the alleged oppressive management of Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited (ZACL) which has retrenched 600 workers.
"ZACL has brought in 150 migrant labourers from neighbouring states to work for the unit," Fonseca said.
The Chief Minister has failed to resolve the industrial unrest at ZACL, he said adding that "Parrikar has deployed police force to support ZACL management.
