The All India University Employees Confederation (AIUEC) has strongly criticised the recent move by the Centre and some state governments for introducing contractual appointments in different universities and some other government departments.
The national executive of the AIUEC, which met here yesterday, passed a resolution stating that contractual appointments were a direct attack on the livelihoods of the marginalised sections of society and an encroachment on human rights.
Secretary General of AIUEC M B Sajjan told reporters today that concern was also expressed over the Centre's move to amend labour laws which resulted in the removal of 80 per cent of working class from the purview of these laws.
Sajjan alleged that the NDA government was protecting the economic interests of large corporate groups at the expense of the common man, including farmers.
He said the AIUEC would support any action plan which was decided upon by different central trade unions and federations of employees.
Another resolution passed at the meeting sought the removal of disparity in pay scales between teachers and non-teaching employees of different universities.
The national executive also expressed concern over the unprecedented numbers of suicide by farmers in north India due to damage to standing crops.
Sajjan said an unprecedented crisis was building up in the country due to the suffering of farmers to which the Centre and state governments appear unmoved.
