"The Committee will be headed by former Panchayati Raj Minister and MP Mani Shankar Aiyar and the cost of its functioning will be borne by the Panchayati Raj Ministry," officials said here today.
Mandated to submit its report within six months, the committee will suggest ways to incentivize states to evolve funds and prepare their functionaries for Panchayats.
It will also flag the constraints that may come up in operationalising the delivery system through the PRIs and suggest ways and means of dealing with the same, they added.
The Gram Panchayats need to be accountable to the respective gram sabhas and the committee will suggest ways to do so.
The Committee will be serviced by Hyderabad-based National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD).
