"NCP chief Sharad Pawar and leaders including Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, Tariq Anwar, Supriya Sule, Chhagan Bhujbal will attend the conclave. About one lakh people are likely to attend the open session of the convention," state unit president Jayant Patel said.
The convention assumes significance in the wake of Ajit Pawar's resignation as deputy chief minister of Maharashtra following allegations of irregularities in irrigation projects. The development severely strained the ties between the two alliance partners of the ruling Democratic Front government of the neighbouring state.
"The one-day meeting will chalk out a comprehensive programme for the party and discuss the national and political issues including strategy to fight Gujarat Assembly elections in December," Patel said.
The convention scheduled to be held on September 15 and 16 was rescheduled due to heavy rains in the city then.
The meeting of the NCP national working committee will be held between 9 AM to 12 noon followed by a public meeting at 1 PM, he said.
"Sharad Pawar who was unanimously elected as the party president for the fifth consecutive time recently, will formally take charge at the meeting to be attended by 28 state presidents, Central office-bearers besides national delegates on Wednesday," Patel said.
The NCP may discuss about forging an alliance with Congress in the upcoming Gujarat elections, he added.
