"We appeal to the state government to award adequate compensation to the families and next of kin of the elected panches and sarpanches who have been killed by terrorists from 2011 till date," AJKPC president Anil Sharma said.
He said the state government must rehabilitate and award compensation to the families of Panchayat members who sacrificed their lives for democracy.
Sharma also asked the state government to include the names of the next of kin of these Panchayat members in the list of victims of terrorism and award the same compensation as awarded to other civilians recently in Kashmir.
He said her family had not received any compensation and she was finding it hard to get money for treatment and feed the family.
Replying to queries of participants in the awareness program aboutsignificance of 73rd amendment of Constitution, he said in states, except Jammu and Kashmir, the Panchayats, after implementation of the amendment, are authorised to issue various certificates of public utilities like birth, income, character-antecedent, registration of death, identification of BPL persons and the people there avail all these services without any hassle.
