The Ajsu party, an ally in the NDA-led government in Jharkhand, today demanded a SIT probe into the 1993 case of attack on a Ranchi-based doctor, hours after a local court sentenced two of its leaders to seven years in prison.
"We have faith in the judiciary. We will appeal in the High Court against the lower court's order against Kamal Kishore Bhagat and A Bodra," Ajsu party spokesman Deo Sharan Bhagat told reporters here.
He said 'We demand the government to institute a special investigation team for an impartial probe into the circumstances leading to the death of Ajsu party leader Sudarshan Bhagat, who was the party's vice-president then."
He also said both Kamal Kishore Bhagat and Bodra had suffered grievous injuries in the incident.
Bhagat claimed the Ajsu leaders had gone to Dr K K Sinha to seek monetary assistance to go to Patna, "which was made into an extortion."
The Additional Judicial Court of Krishna Kumar had yesterday convicted Bhagat and Bodra in connection with the attack on the doctor and today awarded them seven years imprisonment.
