Langah, a baptized Sikh and a former Punjab PWD minister, was arrested by the Gurdaspur Police yesterday in the rape case filed on the basis of a complaint by the widow of a vigilance official.
After a marathon meeting, the five Sikh head priests led by Akal Takht Jathedar Gurbachan Singh announced that the "defamed Langah had been excommunicated from the Sikh 'panth' (community) for his bad deeds which had damaged the image of the community".
In view of the suggestions sent by prominent Sikh scholars and religious leaders, the five Sikh head priests decided to ex-communicate Langah, the Jathedar said.
Langah, a member of the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC), had hurt sentiments of the Sikh community, by and large, he added.
