Even in areas where the women were outshining their male counterparts, their contribution was not being suitably appreciated, she said in a function organised by Doaba Women's Institute for Engineering and Technology here.
On the need for measures to empower women, Kaur cited the example of the Punjab government which was extending annual scholarships of Rs 30,000 to girls from poor families who opted for professional courses.
Later, during an interaction with the media, Kaur said the passage of the anti-rape bill in Lok Sabha was a humble beginning and stressed on the need for effective implementation of the law to instill confidence and a sense of security among women.
