The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today hit out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for "running away" from answering the corruption charges levelled against him by Kapil Mishra and "unleashing his cronies to discredit the former cabinet colleague".
Former Punjab minister and senior Akali leader Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said it was "shocking and shameful" that the Aam Aadmi Party supremo had "different yardsticks" for himself and others.
"When it comes to the transgressions committed by the other leaders of his party, he (Kejriwal) takes immediate action. However, in his own case, when his right-hand man and a (former) cabinet minister says that he saw him taking Rs 2 crore from a tainted colleague, he asks his chamchas (cronies) to start chanting the 'unbelievable' chant," he said in a statement.
The Akali leader added that the people very well understood what was believable and what was not.
"Information related to corruption in the AAP as well as the role of the tanker and land mafia were in the public domain. That's why the party suffered a severe drubbing in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls," he said.
The people of Delhi had realised that corruption was "rampant" in the AAP regime and punished the party for the same, claimed Dhillon.

Alleging that Kejriwal's politics was entirely based on the "shoot-and-scoot" tactic, Dhillon said the AAP leader had "made a habit of defaming others".
"That's why he himself is facing a number of defamation cases," he added.
Stating that Kejriwal was finally facing his "nemesis" now, Dhillon said, "This time, the corruption allegation has been levelled against him by a (former) cabinet minister, who was a founder member of the India Against Corruption movement and has a clean record. Now, Kejriwal cannot try to defame Mishra and get away with it.
"He will have to resign as (Delhi) chief minister and face persecution for his misdeeds."
Speaking about the "corruption unleashed by the AAP in Punjab's politics", the Akali leader claimed that the founder member of the party's state unit, Pavittar Singh, an NRI, had publicly alleged that he was asked to give Rs 50 lakh in order to secure a party ticket for his wife to contest the Assembly polls.
Kejriwal "swept it under the carpet" saying the allegations were not substantiated, but showed the door to AAP Punjab convenor Sucha Singh Chhotepur for allegations of accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh, he claimed.
"Why no action is being taken when the party president is accused by a (former) cabinet colleague of accepting Rs 2 crore? This is proof of the double-standards and double-speak of Kejriwal, who has always misled and befooled the people for his petty political motives," alleged Dhillon.
