Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Amarinder Singh today said the Union Budget must have disappointed the Akalis as Punjab did not get anything from the Centre to battle its "financial woes".
"Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal had made out as if (Union Finance Minister) Arun Jaitley was going to wave some magical wand... But the FM did not give any special package for Punjab on the pattern of Himachal Pradesh as demanded and expected by the Badals," he said in a statement issued here.
The former Punjab Chief Minister said the Akalis had "sold great dreams" to the people of Punjab, saying once Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister and Arun Jaitley the Finance Minister, Punjab would be out of "financial troubles".
"Punjab, which was expecting some relief, did not get anything except the promise of an IIM," he said.
