Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today suggested an alliance of non-Congress and non-BJP parties, saying people are looking for an alternative and a "third force" could be a viable option.
"If you look around, this third force is present in all states in some strength... In UP, in Bihar and we will work to form an alternative force everywhere," he told reporters.
When asked if Samajwadi Party is looking to project its president Mulayam Singh Yadav as the prime ministerial candidate, he evaded a direct reply saying SP's aim is to win as many seats it can.
"People want an alternative whatever be its name," he said.
Mulayam had recently said that he is in talks with Left parties for an alliance and said like-minded parties should come together.
Akhilesh was in the national capital for laying the foundation stone of the NASSCOM headquarters coming up in Noida. In the symbolic inauguration, he laid its foundation at an event here.
He, however, dismissed suggestions that he did not go to Noida due to superstition in political circles that a visit to NCR town often spelled trouble for the government.
"We are socialists who do not believe in superstition. I will go there to inaugurate the building," he said.
