The Act was launched by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who distributed foodgrains to 15 beneficiaries at a function at his official residence here.
He directed the officials to ensure seamless implementation the Act, under which five kg foodgrain, including wheat at a rate of Rs 2 per kg and rice at the rate of Rs 3 per kg, would be provided to every beneficiary.

Its implementation would benefit more than 1.64 crore people in over 40.94 lakh households, the CM said.
Eligible families have been identified and around 75 per cent population would benefit from the scheme, an official spokesman said.
Keeping in mind the drought situation in Bundelkhand region, the entire population, excluding people in 'exclusive criteria', would be covered, the spokesman said.
