Aligarh mayor complains to police of receiving threat calls

The city mayor has complained to police that she has been receiving anonymous threat calls following a drive to curb pollution by some illegal slaughter houses and bone crushing plants.
Shakuntala Bharti in a letter sent yesterday to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dharamvir Singh said an anonymous caller has warned her not to take any further initiative in the ongoing drive.
On being asked about the letter, the SSP said he has received it and efforts are on to trace the identity of the anonymous caller through surveillance.
The issue of environmental pollution came to the forefront last weekend when certain localities on the outskirts of the city, particularly in the Banna Devi, were faced with the problem of air pollution and the locals complained about the foul smell.

A special drive was launched few days ago to trace the foul smell and the mayor had also announced that action would be taken against the polluting units including illegal slaughter and bone crushing units.
Mukhya Nagar Adhikari Shailendra Singh said a special task force has been constituted to tackle this menace.
