ALIMCO inks pact for manufacture of new generation prosthetic

The Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) and Ottobock India inked an agreement for transfer of technology for mass manufacture of new generation prosthetic and orthotic devices at an "affordable price".
The agreement was signed by D R Sarin, CMD of ALIMCO, and Ralf Stutch, Director of Ottobock India, in the presence of Lov Verma, Secretary of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment here today, a statement said.
Speaking on the occasion Joint Secretary of Department of Persons with Disabilities Awanish Kumar Awasthi said that the Finance Minister, in the budget 2014, had announced extension of the scheme for assistance to disabled persons for purchase/ fitting of aids and appliances to include contemporary aids and helping devices.
Based on this announcement, a large number of high-technology modern aids and devices have been approved by the Department, the statement added.
Meanwhile, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and Skills Development Network Trust, Bangalore, for collaboration and support in the area of training and employment of persons with disabilities (PwDs) here today.
