Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today declared Satara as a "smart" police district, based on the 'SMART' policing concept announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014.
According to the concept announced by the PM during the 49th Director Generals Annual Conference at Guwahati on Nov 30, 2014, a police station had to be sensitive and strict, modern with mobility, alert and accountable, reliable and responsive, and trained and techno-savvy.
"As per the concept, 37 police stations of Satara district have now gone smart," a release issued by the Chief Minister's Office said.
The release added that 14 police stations were placed in the 'A++' category, 12 in the 'A+' and the remaining 11 in the 'A' category as per the concept's norms.
The concept envisages a police station with emphasis on proper infrastructure, adequate staff, Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems, internet facilities, efficiency, people friendly approach, timely training, emergency response, sensitivity, credibility and optimal use of technology.
