All educational institutes to be closed in Guwhati tomorrow

The Kamrup Metro district administration today pressed six teams of NDRF and equal number of SDRF teams for assisting the waterlogged people of Guwahati city even as it announced that all the educational institutes in the city would be closed tomorrow in view of rains and waterlogging.
In a statement, Kamrup Metro district administration said all government and private schools and colleges will be closed tomorrow due to flooding of various areas in the city.
"The schools and colleges, which have examinations, will have to fix a new schedule for the same," it added.
The district administration has informed that heavy rainfall is expected in the city tomorrow.
"Today, the Chandmari area witnessed 101.76 mm rainfall while it was 63 mm at Basistha area," the release said.
Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner A Angamuthu said the district administration is fully equipped to deal with the situation created by unprecedented rainfall.

Besides rainfall in the city, the situation became worse in view of heavy downpour in bordering Meghalaya.
The district administration has already put in place six boats, 23 pumps and sufficient numbers of rickshaw at various inundated areas under the supervision of Magistrate, while designated NGOs are keeping strict vigil on the situation.
Already six teams of NDRF and equal number of SDRF teams are assisting the affected persons in the inundated areas to move to safer places.
The authority has made arrangement for announcement through loudspeaker in vulnerable areas requesting public to move to safer place in case of urgency.
The administration has provided drinking water to people in the areas, which are totally cut off from other places.
In case of necessity, two shelter camps have been kept ready at Sangameria dharamsala and Tarun Ram Phukan indoor hall of the Nehru stadium.
The assessment of loss of public goods has been initiated by the revenue office and civil defence authority is assisting the district administration in its efforts.
