An all party delegation will soon meet Central government seeking to restore the ration rice quota of Kerala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today said.
The delegation will hand over a memorandum to the Centrein this regard, Vijayan said briefing reporters after an all party meeting here.
With the Nation Food Security ACT (NFSA) becoming a reality, there was a shortage of about two lakh tonnes of food grains in the state's quota, he said.
"The statutory rationing system, which was in force in Kerala for several years, has come to an end with the NFSA coming into force. This is the main problem", Vijayan said.
As per the NFSA, the number of beneficiaries eligible for being in the priority list has been fixed and the ration wholesale trade will be the state government's responsibility.
The Act aims to provide subsidised food grains to approximately two thirds of India's 1.2 billion people.
