With less than a day to go to open the nomination filing process for the November 1 civic polls to the Kalyan-Dombivili Municipal Corporation, all political parties have joined hands once againg and decided to boycott elections to press for their demands.
Since the formation of the Kalyan-Dombivili Municipal Corporation, 27 villages have been agitating to come out of its jurisdiction and boycotted all elections including the Lok Sabha polls, assembly polls and also civic elections.
The all-party joint agitation committee met today and decided that none of the voters from 22 wards coming under these 27 villages would file their nominations for elections.
Committee members plan to squat in front of election commission offices and prevent anyone from filing nominations between October 6 and October 13, a committee member said.
Committee Vice President Gulab Vaze said that a meeting was held at the Manpadeshwar Mandir today where the issue was discussed in detail and a unanimous decision was taken to totally boycott elections.
The state government, police department and the corporation administration is in a fix over the committee's decision and it is feared that it may give rise to law and order issues.
Among those present for the meeting include former MP Sanjeev Naik, former MLA Ramesh Patil and MLA Narendra Pawar of the BJP. Pawar appealed that none of the citizens from these 27 villages should file nominations for elections.
It may be recalled that the state government had announced a special package for the development of the 27 villages but this did not go down well with the villagers who have been agitating to be out of the corporation's limits.
