The Allahabad high court today ordered a CBI probe into the gunning down of local trader Shrawan Shahu early last month outside his residence allegedly for pursuing the case of his son's murder by a gangster.
A Lucknow bench of court, comprising justices Amreshwar Pratap Sahi and Sanjay Harkauli, also ordered to probe into the lapses by police in providing adequate security to the slain trader.
The division bench gave the order on a plea filed by a civil society on which, it had earlier issued notice to the government seeking its stand on the plea for the CBI probe into the case.
The government in its reply had said it has no objection to the CBI probing the case.
The court also directed the CBI to investigate as to why no proper security was provided in time to the deceased.
The petitioner said the court also asked the inspector general of police (Establishment) to file his affidavit by April 4, the next date of hearing, explaining as to why a policeman, suspended earlier by the senior superintendent of police, had been reinstated.
