CPI today asked the Centre to allay the "genuine" apprehensions of the people of Seemandhra and other regions of Andhra Pradesh before creation of Telangana.
"The Centre should assure the people that their concerns will be addressed and no region will be let down and the rights of everyone in the state will be protected," senior CPI leader D Raja said after top YSR Congress leaders led by the party's honorary president Y S Vijayamma met him here.
He said there were "genuine fears" in the minds of people over issues like the capital, sharing of water and electricity, investment and employment and others.
Raja also asserted that bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh should take place "without hostility and in a brotherly manner."
He said he told the YSR Congress delegation that CPI has decided to support the demand for separate Telangana after a long-drawn discussion within the party.
The delegation had yesterday met top CPI(M) leaders Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury, who extended support to YSR Congress demand for a unified Andhra Pradesh.
The CPI(M) leaders had said the immediate priority was to restore normalcy as the state was heading towards anarchy due to the "unilateral" decision of the Centre and Congress.
