: The Madras High Court has ordered notice to the State government returnable by two weeks, on a plea to probe certain allegations against the Tamil Nadu University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (TANUVAS) Vice-Chancellor.
Justice M M Sundresh passed the direction on a petition moved by an advocate G Anbazhagan, seeking to constitute a high-level enquiry committee to probe into the allegations against TANUVAS Vice-Chancellor including those with regard to recruitment of assistant professors.
The petitioner submitted that the Vice-Chancellor S Thilagar had been facing various allegations including large-scale violations in the recent recruitments to the post of assistant professors in the university.
He said that following various complaints the Board of Management of the University at a meeting held on April 11, resolved to constitute a committee comprising members in the grade of senior professors and officers to probe into the allegations.
Claiming that the enquiry committee comprising members subordinate to the Vice-Chancellor cannot hold an independent probe and the panel would certainly have influence of the higher authorities of the university, the petitioner sought an enquiry by a committee of individual members in the grade equal to or above that of a Vice-Chancellor.
