Alliance for Social Justice sweeps UoH student elections

The Alliance for Social Justice (ASJ), comprising SFI, Ambedkar Students' Association (ASA), Dalit Students' Union (DSU) and few other groups, has swept the student union elections in the University of Hyderabad (UoH) for 2017-18.
The ASJ bagged all the major posts, including president, general secretary, joint secretary and cultural secretary in the elections held on September 21. The results were declared last night.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and OBCF contested the polls together. NSUI was also in the fray, a UoH release said today.
Sreerag P of ASJ won the President's post by securing 1,509 votes against K Palsaniya of ABVP-OBCF, who got 1,349 votes.
Arif Ahammed of ASJ bagged the General Secretary's post by obtaining 1,982 votes against 1,573 votes received by Kiran Kumar K of ABVP-OBCF.
Muhammed Ashique N P of ASJ won the Joint Secretary post by securing 1,872 votes as he defeated Maloth Pooja Rani of ABVP-OBCF, who got 1,591 votes.

The Cultural Secretary post was won by Gundeti Abhishek of ASJ as he secured 1,792 votes against 1,707 votes obtained by Aarti N Nagpal of ABVP-OBCF.
Lolam Shravan Kumar of ASJ emerged victorious as the Sports Secretary. He got 1917 votes, while his rival Rupesh Ranjan of ABVP-OBCF got 1511 votes.
ASJ candidates also won the posts of GS-Cash (Integrated), GS-Cash (PG) and GS-Cash (Research).
Though Lunavath Naresh of ASJ secured 1,885 votes against 1,624 votes received by Apoorv Jain of ABVP-OBCF in the election to the post of Vice-President, the result was not declared due to technical reasons, the release said.
