"Alstom and NASL have been awarded a contract worth approximately Euro 13 million (Rs 107.4 crore) by NTPC for the renovation and modernisation of electrostatic precipitators at four units of the 4x500 MW Talcher Super Thermal Power Plant in Odisha," Alstom said in a statement.
NASL is a joint venture company between NTPC and Alstom.

The upgrade will reduce particulate emissions from the plant which is scheduled to be commissioned in 2018, the statement said.
The scope of the project includes engineering, supply, erection, commissioning and testing of some equipment and associated civil, mechanical and electrical works.
Alstom and NASL had earlier executed similar contracts for NTPC's Tanda 4x110 MW plant (Uttar Pradesh) as well.
"It is a significant step forward for Alstom and NASL and clearly reinforces the market's faith in our leading air quality control systems and services. Going forward, our focus will be to ensure the application of the most effective and efficient environmental control technology for the Talcher plant," said Patrick Ledermann, Vice President Alstom (Thermal Power & Renewable Power in India).
Electrostatic precipitators have been used widely to control particulate emissions and are often the most cost- effective solution due to high removal efficiencies and low maintenance costs.
