Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva today said that agriculture scientists should reach out to the farmers to help them with their findings and new agricultural technologies.
"Today, we have lots of research in our institutions and hoards of new technologies are emerging in the agriculture sector, but their benefits are not reaching the farmers," Alva said at a 'Kissan Sammelan' (farmers' conference) at Jodhpur Agricultural University.
She said, "Until their benefits reach the farmers, these researches and technologies have no relevance." The Governor also laid the foundation stone of an agricultural college.
Alva said this was the responsibility of the universities that "they go to the field, apprise the farmers of new findings or any development and motivate them to adopt it by continuous assistance".
She laid emphasise on the use of Radio for sharing new developments in agricultural sector with the farmers.
Citing example of Agriculture University of Uttarakhand, Alva said the varsity "has its own radio station and it has contributed well in dissemination of research and development works", leading to adoption of new techniques and growth in production.
"Besides this, farmers should also focus on agriculture and make the best use of the researches and developments in agricultural technologies in order to increase production with renewed and modern approach," she said.
