The online retail giant said this was on top of the hiring of 25,000 full-time workers since August.
Amazon said it employs 90,000 people full-time at its more than 50 customer service facilities and 20 package distribution centers.
But it also tends to hire many people for the year-end holiday rush.
Last year, for instance, it took on 80,000 people for the Christmas holidays.
Amazon has been criticized over working conditions, particularly at its call centers that take customer orders.
The company insists it pays competitive wages and offers benefits such as health care and company contributions towards retirement plans.
