In a bid to expedite the process to set up a memorial of Babasaheb Ambedkar on Indu Mill land in Central Mumbai, the Maharashtra cabinet today approved the issuance of assurance-deed as demanded by the Centre.
According to the state government's decision, it will transfer the surplus floor space index (FSI) on the land to Centre.
The erstwhile UPA government had given the nod to make available the 4.84 hectares of total land of the defunct mill for the purpose of setting up the memorial of the dalit icon.
The state cabinet today decided that it will send the assurance-deed to Centre, mentioning that the 4.84 hectare of land will be utilised only for the construction of the memorial, an official statement said.
The guarantee to be given by the state will also mention that a Centre's representative will be part of the managing committee of the Trust, which will be set up by the state government for the purpose.
