Ambuja Cement profit up 26 pc

Ambuja Cement today reported 26.2 per cent rise in net profit for the April-June quarter at Rs 409 crore on higher sales.
The company, in which Swiss building material major Holcim has the controlling stake, had clocked Rs 324 crore net profit in the second quarter last year.
Sales turnover of the company grew to Rs 2,706 crore from Rs 2,344 crore clocking a 15.4 per cent rise over the same period last year, Ambuja said in a statement.
The company sold 5.79 million tonnes cement during the quarter from 5.38 million tonnes a year ago.
Operating margin of the company grew by 12.4 per cent to Rs 588 crore from Rs 523 crore a year earlier.
Ambuja Cements said the macro-economic condition remains challenging, construction activity is expected to pick up pace considering favourable announcement in Union Budget 2014-15 for infrastructure and housing.
