'American corner' coming up in public library in Kottayam

The US Consulate in Chennai has made all arrangements for opening an 'American Corner' at the public library in Kottayam.
The facility will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the presence of US Consul General Jennifer McIntyre on June 14, the consul Public Affairs Officer David J Gainer and Cultural Affairs Officer Shanna Dietz Surendra said in a virtual press conference with Kottayam Press Club today.
A venture in partnership with Kottayam Public Library,the facility will serve as a window to the life and culture of the people of the United States for the people of Kottayam and other regions of Kerala.
It will provide accurate and up-to-date information about cultural, educational, political, economic, and social trends in the United States.
The resources will contain books and magazines, including resources for children, English language learning materials, EducationUSA materials, DVDs, and access to ElibraryUSA.
The collection will be updated regularly and services will include open access to materials, photocopying and printing, reference services, use of internet, working references at the American Library in Chennai, and facilities for group or individual orientations and invitations to special programs organized by US Consulate General, Chennai.
The Kottayam American Corner is the US Consulate General, Chennai's second American Corner, the first being in Bengaluru in partnership with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan set up in 2004.
The facility will be open to students, researchers, business, media and legal professionals, children and general public between 10 AM and 5 PM on all working days.
