As the US braces up for 237th Independence Day celebrations, figures show its people rely heavily on China-made fireworks to commemorate various occasions.
In 2012, the US imported fireworks worth USD 231.8 million, of which China alone accounted for USD 227.3 million, the Census Bureau said yesterday.
The US exports of fireworks, by comparison, came to just USD 11.7 million in 2012, with Israel purchasing more than any other country (USD 2.5 million).
Similarly in 2012, the US imported American flags worth USD 3.8 million, of which those made in China accounted for USD 3.6 million.
The US is celebrating its 237th Independence Day on July 4, which is a federal holiday.
It was on this day in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress, setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation.
