Aligarh Muslim University today constituted a three-member committee to probe the alleged irregularities in the admission test for its MBBS and BDS courses for the year 2015-16.
According to an official notification, the inquiry committee will by headed by retired High Court judge Imtiyaz Murtaza and have Mohammad Mian, former Vice Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad, and Faizan Mustafa, V-C of NALSAR National Law University, as members.
The committee, which is expected to submit its report by June 20, will look into whether "proper procedure was followed in the conduct of the admission test".
It would also probe the entire sequence of the events which took place at the exam centre in Kozhikode on April 26, when the all India competitive examination was held at eleven centres in different parts of the country.
The matter came to light on May 23 when the AMU Vice- Chancellor Lt Gen Zameeruddin Shah instituted a preliminary enquiry in this matter after university officials became suspicious on finding that more than 30 candidates, out of a total 79 selected, belonged to the Kozhikode centre.
On the basis of the preliminary report, Shah cancelled the results of MBBS and BDS entrance test 2015-16 conducted on April 26 and announced fresh test in the first week of August.

Meanwhile, the AMU Teachers' Association (AMUTA) dismissed the findings of the preliminary enquiry, describing it "as an attempt to protect the real culprits".
AMUTA's secretary Mustafa Zaidi said if the university was serious about unearthing the facts then the "first step should have been to file a report with the police".
"Since the matter pertains to a pan-India competition, any enquiry becomes meaningless unless it is conducted by an official investigative agency," he said, adding that for the enquiry to be meaningful, the Controller of Examination should be asked to step down till the enquiry is completed.
Zaidi said AMUTA has passed a very strong resolution demanding that the matter should be handed over to the CBI.
