State BJP president G Kishan Reddy, senior party leader Bandaru Dattatreya and others today visited Anjayya Nagar and Siddiqi Nagar in the city where Assamese live.

A BJP release quoted Assamese residents as having told the party leaders that some of their people received threats, which made some of them leave the city in fear.

Kishan Reddy demanded state government identify areas inhabited by Assamese as well as their places of work to provide them with adequate security. The Assamese, who left the city, should also be provided free travel facilities to return to Hyderabad, he demanded.

Earlier in the day, Andhra Pradesh police assured Northeasterners residing in Hyderabad about their safety and denied there was a mass exodus of migrants from the city or any part of Andhra Pradesh.

"Hyderabad is known for its communal harmony and I assure the Assamese people of their safety. They should not panick due to rumours. We have been reviewing the situation since the past two days. No attacks on the Assamese happened in Hyderabad," State Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy told reporters here.
