According to an official release issued here today, the chief minister highlighted animal husbandry's potential to provide employment to one crore people, during a review meeting with the state animal husbandry department.
Naidu set a three-year target to bring animal husbandry and fisheries at par with agriculture as well as horticulture departments, the release stated.
Officials informed Naidu about a plan to increase the department's revenue to Rs 44,241 crore from the current Rs 36,798 crore, the release stated.
Animal Husbandry Department head Kondala Rao informed Naidu that milk production in Chittoor district has been increased by providing quality fodder, for which Rs 15 crore was allocated, the release stated.
Stating that Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat lead in milk production, he directed officials to work to make Andhra Pradesh among highest milk producing states, it said.
It has also been decided to hand over sheep farming units to women hailing from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Castes, minorities as well as Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas (DWCRA) groups. Naidu also urged officials to explore setting up meat processing units and market them to achieve good results, it said.
