Engineer Vinod Hindocha, whose daughter was kidnapped and murdered in South Africa in 2010 while she was on her honeymoon with NRI millionaire husband Shrien Dewani, had his arm ripped off just below the shoulder as he was fixing a lift in Sweden.
He was fixing the lift when a chain slipped and he hurtled to the ground "looking up at his severed limb".
He was flown to a hospital where the limb was reattached after 13 hours of surgery, The Mirror reported.
Vinod's brother Ashok, who joined members of Anni's family sitting through every day of evidence in the trial of her widower Shrien last year, said: "He told me he was in the lift as it went down and he could see his severed arm on the first floor as he went down to the ground floor."

"He has movement in his elbow, which surgeons say is the most important thing, and his fingertips are getting warmer. He is a fighter," Ashok said.
Anni, an engineer, was killed on a luxury honeymoon in Cape Town with Bristol millionaire Shrien.
Shrein, 34, fought extradition from the UK after being accused of hiring 'hitmen' to carry out her murder, before finally facing court in Cape Town last October.
He was last year cleared at Western Cape High Court of any role in his wife's murder, although the case was thrown out before he could give evidence.
Three men, Zola Tongo, Mziwamadoda Qwabe and Xolile Mngeni, who were already serving jail terms for their role in the killing, claimed Shrein arranged a hijacking in which he would survive and his wife would be killed.
