A private hospital employee was killed by a wild elephant at Thoppampatti, near here, and this is the second such incident reported in two days.
Two men, both aged 27, were sitting and talking near Ganapathi Garden late Monday night when the elephant came down from a hill near the CRPF camp, police said Tuesday.
Seeing the elephant, the men took to their heels, but the elephant took Prem Karthik with its trunk, hurled him down and trampled him to death, they said.
His friend Vignesh managed to escape and informed the villagers about the incident. They, in turn, alerted the police and the forest department personnel.
The personnel recovered the Prem's body and sent it for a postmortem at the government hospital.
On early Monday, an elephant attack occurred just three km away from Pannimadai, where a driver was trampled to death, leading to panic among the people of the vicinity.
