The state government already pays Rs 25,000 per month to those who spent more than a month in jail under the MISA and DIR between 1975 and 1977, when Indira Gandhi government had declared internal emergency, leading to arrests of political activists and leaders across the country.
"The state cabinet today decided to provide honorarium of Rs 8,000 per month for those who spent less than one month in jail during Emergency," said an official of the Public Relations Department.
In 2008, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government had first introduced honorarium for MISA detainees under the 'Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan Honorarium Rules'.
