55-year-old Vikram, who had also been given oxygen for last two days, died today at the Sushruta Trauma Centre in North Delhi. Vikram's son alleged that his father's condition deteriorated following malfunctioning of the oxygen supply machine.
"My father died due to negligence of the hospital. His condition deteriorated following snapping of oxygen supply on on Tuesday night," Vikram's son Ombir said.
Health department officials, however, said though Vikram could have been affected by alleged malfunctioning of the oxygen supply machine, he had recovered from hiccups.
"It would be wrong to link his death with the alleged malfunctioning of the oxygen supply system. He was in a critical condition and may have died due to other complications," a senior official said.
A hospital official confirmed the death but refused to go into the causes.
Four critically-ill patients died at the Sushruta Trauma Centre yesterday allegedly due to malfunctioning of oxygen supply system.
The government has already ordered a probe into the incident. Special Secretary in Health department S B Shashank will head the inquiry committee and it has been asked to file the report by Friday.
