The incident took place in the intervening night between December 25-26, near the Vijayraghogarh forest range when the wild cat came in contact with the live wire, resulting in its death on the spot.
This is the third incident of its kind this month, which has shocked the state government, that is trying to regain its status as the "tiger state".
Officials said the tiger carcass was found in an agriculture field at Jugia village near the forest range.
However, the villager who allegedly laid the trap was absconding, officials said.
Earlier this month, a tiger had fallen into an electric trap near Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. Also, more tigers were poached in Khitauli range of Katni district.
